Hawarden, Iowa — A woman from Honduras and a Hawarden woman were taken to the hospital after an accident on Thursday near Hawarden.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 6:45 PM, 26-year-old Cassandra Cooper of Hawarden was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix westbound on Highway 10, a mile and a half east of Hawarden. Thirty-year-old Gladys Bonilla of Honduras was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound on Highway 10, according to the report. They say Cooper crossed the center of the roadway and struck Bonilla.
Cooper and Bonilla both were transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to the Hawarden Hospital.
The Pontiac sustained about $10,000 in damages. The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $8,000 in damages.
The Sheriff’s Office says the Hawarden Police department, Hawarden Ambulance crew and Hawarden Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
