Sheldon, Iowa — Despite seeing high temperatures in the 50s on six occasions during February, the month’s average high temperature was slightly BELOW normal.
Highs of 50-degrees or higher were recorded on February 8, 9, 16, 19, 21 and 28th. However, the mercury remained below 20 on ten separate dates, dropping the average high temperature for the month to just 30-degrees. That’s one degree below the normal February high of 31, but well above February, 2021, when the average high was only 18. Last month’s warmest temperature was 55, which was recorded on February 9th. The coldest high temperature last month was 5, which was recorded on February 23rd.
As for low temperatures, February this year was well below the average normal low for February. This year’s average February low was 4-degrees, compared to February 2021 when the average low was 18. The normal average low for February is 12. The warmest low temperature last month was 28, which was recorded on February 9th, while the coldest low for the month was 13-below, which was recorded on the 26th.
February was significantly drier this year than normal. Just 0.45-inch of moisture fell on Sheldon during the month. That’s 0.33″-inch below normal for February. 2.6-inches of snow fell on Sheldon during February, that’s 4.2-inches below the normal February snowfall of 6.8-inches.
Since the first snowflake of the season, Sheldon has seen just 13.75-inches. That’s more than a FOOT less than the normal snowfall by this point in the snow season, which is 25.8-inches.
