Northwest Iowa — Voters in part of northwest Iowa will soon be going to the polls to select a new State Senator, following the resignation of the current officeholder.
Spirit Lake Republican State Senator Zach Whiting has announced that he will resign from the Iowa Senate, effective at noon this Saturday (October 30th), to take a job with the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
Whiting was elected in 2018and represents Senate District 1, which is comprised of Osceola, Lyon, Dickinson, Clay and Palo Alto Counties in northwest Iowa.
In a press release, Whiting said serving the people of Senate District 1 has been an honor and privilege and he’s forever grateful for their overwhelming support for him and the strong conservative agenda in the Iowa Senate. He says he’s proud of the votes he’s taken to cut taxes, spend within the State’s means, and expand freedom and opportunity for all Iowans.
Whiting called his new position with the Texas Public Policy Foundation a professional opportunity he cannot afford to pass up.
Iowa law requires a special election to fill out the final year of Whiting’s unexpired term.
