It’s National Rhubarb Pie Day!
It’s been historically known as “pie plant” since the 19th century. The main ingredient comes from the tart, celery-like, stalks of the rhubarb vegetable which are sweetened with large amounts of sugar and often paired with strawberries.
It’s known for its bright, tangy flavor and crimson color. It was a staple in early American cooking, because it was easy to grow and very versatile.
