This morning we had yet another share of thunderstorms rumble through the area. This time the primary threat was wind. Thunderstorms can have a phenomena called a “microburst”. This happens when a column of air rapidly descends out of the base of a thunderstorm, and as it hits the ground, it does something of an upside-down “mushroom” effect. These microbursts can have fast enough winds that can force an airliner that is on its approach to land into the ground.
