Additional Arrests Made In Hull Burglary Investigation

Hull, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — Authorities say additional arrests have been made in connection with a burglary investigation at a Hull business that was first reported late last month.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, deputies began investigating the burglary on February 25th at Ozone Solutions in Hull, located along Highway 18. During the investigation, authorities executed multiple search warrants at residences in Hull, and stolen property was recovered.

With security footage from the business, deputies connected the crime to 34-year-old Jakob Gamboa of Hull. He was arrested on March 1st and transported to the Sioux County Jail. He was accused of first-degree theft, a Class C felony, along with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief, both Class D felonies.

Investigators say the case later expanded to include two additional suspects.

Authorities say 33-year-old Jesse Van Leeuwen of Hull initially fled the area, and arrest warrants were issued. During the investigation, deputies also determined he had allegedly stolen a vehicle.

Officials also say they believe that 60-year-old Jodi Van Leeuwen of Hull allegedly assisted Jesse Van Leeuwen in avoiding law enforcement.

She was arrested on Monday, March 10th, and transported to the Sioux County Jail. She was cited on the charges of accessory after the fact, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, first offense, a serious misdemeanor.

Jesse Van Leeuwen was later located and arrested on Tuesday, March 11, and transported to the Sioux County Jail. He is charged with first‑degree theft, a Class C felony; and second‑degree theft, second‑degree criminal mischief, and third‑degree burglary, all Class D felonies. He was also accused of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanor offenses.

If convicted of a class C felony, he could face ten years in prison, with five years for a class D felony.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that several agencies assisted with the investigation, including the Sioux Center Police Department, Rock Valley Police Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Spirit Lake Police Department, Arnolds Park Police Department, and the Okoboji Police Department.

Authorities note that criminal charges are accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
