Grassley pleased Biden is considering E15 summertime sales

IARN — The Biden administration is reportedly considering summertime sales of E15.

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley on Tuesday said he’s pleased the administration is taking a look at E15 as an option to help lower high fuel prices across the country.

“The president has said he will look at every tool to lower gas prices. Praise the Lord,” said Grassley. “This is a commonsense proposal that will deliver immediate results. When you start filling up at the gas tank, E15 is clearly the cheaper option. The president needs to act soon before this lower cost fuel option is halted by EPA.”

Grassley says year-round E15 would not only help Americans save money, but it would assist the Biden administration in its efforts to lower greenhouse gas emissions across the country.

“We’ve seen great advances in biofuels technology, including technology at biorefineries,” said Grassley. “This is all help to cut back emissions. It’s time to update the modeling to what the Argonne national lab uses when it studies greenhouse gas reductions.”

Grassley says he is urging the EPA to update its biofuel emissions modeling.

“I joined in a bipartisan effort with Senators Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Thune (R-S.D.) just last week in pushing EPA to use this model, which shows that ethanol has more than a 40% reduction in lifecycle carbon emissions than conventional gasoline does.”

The senators wrote that “these long-overdue updates would permit consistent comparison between petroleum-based fuels, natural gas systems, electric generation and renewable fuels.”

The letter was also signed by Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.).
