ICA gearing up for Cattlemen at the Capitol next week

IARN — Iowa Cattlemen’s Association members have the chance to speak with lawmakers at an upcoming event at the State Capitol next week.

ICA leaders are asking their members to show their loyalty and commitment to the state’s cattle industry by attending Cattlemen at the Capitol on Wednesday, February 23rd. ICA director of communications Anna Hastert tells the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network that one of the key pillars of the association’s mission is advocacy.

“We’re hoping to have 100 members in attendance. That would be roughly two members per county that we represent in attendance. Really strongly encourage you to attend this regardless of your involvement with our state association. This is a great opportunity to meet with your state legislators.”

Hastert says cattle producers who join ICA at the Capitol will be able to ask their legislators to protect the interests of Iowa cattlemen and women.

“Us at the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association are representing you on the local, state and federal level day in and day out,” said Hastert. “This is really your opportunity to speak with your state legislator about issues impacting your farm and potential legislation moving forward to provide a solution for that.”

Legislative visits will follow a morning breakfast. At 10:45 a.m., a proclamation signing with Governor Kim Reynolds will take place.

“It will start at 8 a.m. with brisket breakfast burritos. Once breakfast runs out, we will meet with state legislators and hope to see Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds in attendance as well. You can register by calling 515-296-2266, or by emailing Kate at kate@iacattlemen.org.”

Hastert adds attendees are asked to wear their cattleman attire and make it known that boots are under the “Golden Dome.”
