Impending Mexican corn ban looms in Senate Ag Committee

IARN — We have been discussing this for almost a year now. The impending ban by the Mexican government on GMO corn from the United States. The two countries have been negotiating, and even saw the Mexican government postpone the ban another year, but that is about as far as the two sides have gotten.

Yesterday, the Senate Ag Committee had a Farm bill hearing to talk about food and horticulture titles in the bill. Newly appointed USDA Undersecretary for Trade & Foreign Ag Affairs Alexis Taylor was one of those in attendance. As expected, she faced questions from fellow Iowans about the future of our corn exports.

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley questioned Undersecretary Taylor, asking if there were any plans for the Biden Administration to open dispute settlements under the USMCA agreement. Taylor said that this is still an ongoing situation.
