IARN — We have all seen those signs in various places. You know the ones that say how many days there have been since a workplace accident. If it is good, we see a large number.
Well with the threat of HPAI returning as birds begin their spring migration, IDALS must have the same idea for how many days we have had since our last HPAI outbreak. This time a year ago, the bird flu was beginning to return. It was the first time since the 2015 outbreak. However, there was optimism because this time we were ready for it. We knew what to do. We actually got through the spring better than we did during 2015. However, unlike in 2015, the disease didn’t go away. It is still hanging a round a year later.
As the birds begin their spring migration, we see a few cases popping up here and there. This means the birds are not shedding the virus. In fact, we just had another case pop up in Northeast Iowa. Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig tells us more.
