Senator Grassley To Hold Cattle Market “Roundup” In Cherokee On Tuesday

Cherokee, Iowa — Sen. Chuck Grassley will host a Cattle Market Roundup on Tuesday, May 31 at 5 p.m. in Cherokee.

Grassley’s staff says cattle producers in northwest Iowa will have the opportunity to hear from Senator Grassley about his recent work to improve transparency in the cattle market industry. The roundup is meant for cattle producers in Cherokee, O’Brien, Plymouth, Sioux and surrounding counties.

Grassley will host a round table with cattle producers at the Grainery Lodge & Banquet Barn, at 1969 500th St., Cherokee.

Grassley’s staff says that as part of his “longstanding effort to improve fairness and transparency in the cattle marketplace dominated by four major meatpackers,” Sen. Grassley introduced a bipartisan bill with Senators Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) called the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act, which is supported by the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association. They say that Grassley consistently hears from Iowa’s independent cattle producers about their struggle to get a fair price for their cattle. Recently, the Senate Agriculture Committee held a hearing to discuss his legislation to begin the process of moving the bill through the Senate.
