U.S./Canada Border Closes Temporarily

(IARN) — “We will be, by mutual consent, temporarily closing our northern border with Canada to non-essential traffic,” stated President Donald Trump.

Both countries look to slow the spread of COVID-19, otherwise known as coronavirus.

Trade will resume during this time. However, persons travelling for tourism or recreational purposes will not be allowed to cross the border, says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“We are looking at all options; we’re not taking any off the table,” Trudeau said. “(This is) to insure our economies and our people, who are interconnected in many different ways, and insure the smooth flow of goods – essential materials and medications across the border.”

Such measures will remain in place until further notice. Prime Minister Trudeau states does not plan to restrict travel within Canada. Government leaders, however, continue to weigh all options.

“We will continue to look at measures as they become necessary,” Trudeau said. “The ‘Emergency Measures Act’ is a significant step. Not one we feel we need today, but not one we are closing the door to in the future, in necessary.”
