USDA APHIS taking the initiative to “Protect our Pigs”

IARN — As we make our way around World Pork Expo in Des Moines, one of the topics that is still being talked about is African Swine Fever (AFS). While that doesn’t mean we don’t have other pork health concerns, it is still the one that comes with a hefty price tag for the American pork industry. The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has launched an initiative called “Protect our Pigs” to help support veterinarians and the industry.

Dr. Jack Shere is the Associate Administrator for USDA APHIS. He talks about what you can find on their new website. It is filled with educational materials, biosecurity guides, and information on how to detect the signs of the disease.
