Northwest Iowa — Thanksgiving is coming up, and many of us are getting ready to roast the bird, make the sides, and sit down to a feast with family and friends. However, sometimes people have nowhere to go for Thanksgiving or have no one to share it with. And some people can’t afford a Thanksgiving feast. There are meals planned in the area for just such a situation. Organizers of the meals say that everyone is welcome.
Pre-registration is required for most of these meals, so we’re telling you about them now so that you have a chance to sign up before the deadline.
The First Reformed Church in Sheldon invites anyone to join them for a heart-warming Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November 28th. The traditional Thanksgiving meal will be served at noon in the Fellowship Hall at First Reformed Church on Washington, Avenue in Sheldon. Please call Wendy in the church office at 324-2130 by Friday, November 22nd to reserve your place. First Reformed Church in Sheldon wants you to attend and First Reformed Church will also provide transportation.
Most years, there is a free CommUNITY Thanksgiving Meal in Orange City at the Living Water Community Church. However, this year, a church staff member tells us that due to unforeseen circumstances, they’ve had to cancel the meal. At this point, they DO plan on doing it next year.
Anyone in the Sibley area who will be alone or may not have the financial means this year to afford a turkey dinner is invited to attend the Church/Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th at the Sibley First Presbyterian Church. Organizers say it would be an honor to have you. Carry-outs will be available for the homebound only. If anyone is homebound and does not have someone to pick up the meal for them, organizers tell us they will deliver in that circumstance. There is no charge or freewill offering, and no deadline to sign up.
The Primghar Church of Christ is also doing a free Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day, the 28th. They’ll serve from 11 to 1 at the church. There is no charge, but donations are accepted. Please call Darlene at 712-348-4022 to reserve your seat or request take-out or delivery. The church is located at 280 1st Street Northwest in Primghar. They tell us that they’d like to have people reserve the week before the meal, but they’ve accepted people right up to the day before as well.
The Rock Rapids First Reformed Church and Chamber of Commerce invite you to a Community Thanksgiving Meal on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, at noon at the First Reformed Church of Rock Rapids. Meals are available in-person, for delivery, or to-go, and all are free of charge. They will also provide rides to those in need. For this meal, they do request that you RSVP by next Sunday, November 24th. They’ll have turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, salads, and pies.
