Northwest Iowa — Northwest Iowa firefighters have had a couple of recent calls.
Little Rock firefighters responded to the call of a semi on fire on Tuesday evening, about 5:45. It was noted that the truck was loaded with feed and was near a hog building. Fire Chief Austin Kannegieter tells us that the fire was almost out when they got there. He says a brake malfunction or flat tire caused the fire, which only damaged the tire and the brakes. He says they cooled the brake drum with water and they were back in service in about 15 minutes.
The next night, Ashton firefighters were called out to a fire across from the elevator in town. Fire Chief Andy Gacke says the owner had been doing a controlled burn, but with the wind, it got away from him and the smoke was causing visibility issues in the area.
In other news about fire, firefighters warn that it is still quite dry, even with the snow that we have had, and the recent high winds have also caused more fire danger. They advise that it would probably be better to wait with burning until we have had some more precipitation.
