Sheldon, Iowa — The filing period for November’s city and school elections in Iowa ends at the close of business on Thursday.
Some candidates have filed papers already, and others have not. Whether that’s an indication of whether they plan to run or not is unknown, and we won’t know for sure who’s running until the deadline passes.
In Sheldon, the terms of the Mayor, the Ward 2 council member, and the at-large council member are up for election. Current incumbents are Mayor Greg Geels, Ward 2 Council Member Ken Snyder, and At-Large Council Member Tom Eggers. So far, as of mid-day Monday, only one candidate has filed papers to run, according to City Clerk Angie Beckman, and that person is not an incumbent. Kevin Miller has filed papers for the at-large seat currently held by Tom Eggers.
On the Sheldon Community School District Board of Education, current members include President Susan Rensink, Vice President Jessica Brink, and board members Lori Richards, Adam Sauer, and Amy Sietstra. Board Secretary Gwen Mathahs tells us Richards’ and Rensink’s terms are up. She says that as of Monday afternoon, a few people have expressed interest in running, but none have officially submitted paperwork yet.
Again, the deadline is Thursday afternoon, so people do have a little time.
