Ashton, Iowa — The Ashton Fire Department was called out to a fire on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, near Ashton.
According to Ashton Fire Chief Dave Assistant Chief Otis, at about 4:20 p.m., the Ashton Fire Department was called to the report of a cornstalk bale fire near 210th Street and McKinley Avenue, two miles north and three west of Ashton.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw the full-size bale smoldering in the middle of the field. He says they used water and broke up the bale.
Assistant Chief Otis says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Assistant Chief Otis reports that the damage was limited to the bale.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about half an hour.
