Hartley, Iowa — The results of an autopsy performed after a fatal shooting near Hartley early this month have come back.
O’Brien County Sheriff Bruce Devereaux says that shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3rd, his office received a 911 call reporting a shooting had occurred at a home on Yew Avenue, east of Hartley. The reporting party advised that the victim was approximately 50 years old and had received a gunshot to the head.
The first responders found the victim was Robert Leroy Peters Jr., of Hartley. At the time, it was not known if anyone else was involved.
The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s office has now determined that Peters’ wound was self-inflicted.
