Storm Lake, Iowa — Storm Lake Police have arrested a man from there following a tense incident Monday evening involving threats and an assault with what turned out to be a BB gun.
Authorities were dispatched around 7:10 p.m. Monday to the 700 block of Elmwood Drive after receiving reports of a man on foot carrying what appeared to be a handgun and making threats. Officers identified the suspect as 26-year-old Jose Ramirez of Storm Lake.
Police allege Ramirez entered a residence without permission before confronting a victim in the roadway and shooting them multiple times in the face and upper body with a BB gun. The victim fled and later sought treatment at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.
Law enforcement teams—including the Storm Lake Police Entry Team and Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Tactical Unit—searched the Elmwood Drive area but did not locate Ramirez. Around 8:45 p.m., officers received information that Ramirez was at his residence on Grand Avenue. A perimeter was established, and at approximately 9:20 p.m., Ramirez and other occupants exited the home without incident.
A search warrant was later executed at the residence, where police say they recovered evidence related to the assault.
Ramirez now faces multiple charges, including first-degree burglary, threats of terrorism, willful injury, and going armed with intent. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and is being held on a $33,000 bond.
The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office and the County Attorney’s Office.
