Rock Rapids, Iowa — The Community Blood Bank is hosting an All-American Blood Drive at Avera Rock Rapids this Wednesday, July 31st.
The bloodmobile will be taking donations from 7:30-10:30 am & 12-3 pm at Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital, on the south end of Rock Rapids, near Highway 75. To save your spot, visit cbblifeblood.org and click on events, July 31st, and then Avera Rock Rapids.
According to the Association of Donor Recruitment Professionals (ADRP), one in seven patients admitted to hospitals requires blood, supporting a range of needs from trauma cases to individuals fighting diseases like sickle cell disease, Thalassemia, or undergoing organ or bone marrow transplants. Blood donations are vital for 25 percent of all cancer patients, and one out of every 83 newborn deliveries in the US necessitates blood transfusions—a rate that surged by over 50 percent between 2006 and 2015. While older Americans contribute significantly as donors, there has been a concerning decline in donations among younger individuals aged 16 to 24.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age (or 16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 lbs or more, and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an I.D. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating.
