Blood Drive At KIWA Radio Tuesday

Sheldon, Iowa — KIWA Radio and Community Blood Bank will host a community blood drive this Tuesday, September 16th.

The blood drive is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with donor registration located inside KIWA Radio. Donors can schedule a donation time by visiting cbblifeblood.org, selecting “Donate Blood,” then “Blood Drive Calendar” and September 16th.

Community Blood Bank officials tell us all those who donate blood will receive a $20 Hy-Vee gift card. Ken Versteeeg, Executive Director of Community Blood Bank, says that blood supplies typically face challenges after holiday weekends due to decreased donations during vacation periods, combined with increased trauma cases and medical emergencies. He says the Labor Day weekend historically sees higher rates of accidents and injuries, making post-holiday blood drives essential for maintaining adequate hospital supplies.

Blood bank officials say a single blood donation can be separated into multiple components – red blood cells, plasma, and platelets – allowing one donor to potentially help save up to three different patients.

People interested in donating blood must be generally healthy, at least 16 years old (with parental consent), and weigh at least 110 pounds. Please bring a photo ID with you to your donation. Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are encouraged to reduce wait times. For more information about the blood drive, eligibility requirements, or to schedule an appointment, log onto cbblifeblood.org.
