Sibley, Iowa — The Community Blood Bank is having a blood drive this Wednesday at the Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibley. The drive runs from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and after a lunch break, will resume at 1:30 and accept donations until 3:00.
Donors must be 17 years old (or 16 with a signed parent consent form available at cbblifeblood.org), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health, and bring some form of identification. Individuals displaying cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate. Call 712-754-2574 to schedule an appointment. It’s recommended to eat within 3 hours of donating blood, and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood.
Blood bank officials say Community Blood Bank needs over 550 donors to donate blood every
week, more than 28,000 every year, to maintain an adequate local supply. They tell us that only five percent of the eligible population donates blood. The blood bank needs an average of 100 units
of blood per day to supply the area hospitals, so, as they say, it’s easy to see why your regular donation of blood is essential to take care of local patients.
