Boyden Fire Destroys Garage, Contents

Boyden, Iowa — A garage and its contents were destroyed in a fire on Friday, November 28, 2025, near Boyden.

According to Boyden Fire Chief Chris Starkenburg, just before 10:00 p.m., the Boyden Fire Department was called to the report of a garage on fire at 3821 310th Street, a mile north and about two miles west of Boyden.

When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw the single-stall detached garage fully engulfed. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be a heat lamp that had been left on for some cats. He says they didn’t find any cats while fighting the fire, so the assumption is that they got out safely.

Chief Starkenburg reports that the garage and its contents, including a lawnmower, were totaled in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
