Boyden Man Faces Felony Insurance Fraud Charge

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Boyden man has been arrested on felony insurance fraud charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau, 61-year-old Todd Meendering of Boyden is accused of conspiring to defraud a car insurance company. He was arrested on Tuesday.

In her statement, the investigator says this case is related to the Michael Vecchio case we covered a few days ago. She says Vecchio was involved in an accident while driving a vehicle that was under the control of Meendering’s business. According to the investigator, Meendering asked the vehicle’s owner to make false statements to Progressive Insurance, in support of a claim against Vecchio’s Progressive policy, so the company would pay the claim and Meendering’s business would not be liable for the damages.

Meendering was charged with insurance fraud – conspiracy, a class D felony. If convicted, Meendering could face up to five years in prison.

No court dates have yet been set in the case.

Meendering was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, and was released the same day after posting a $5000 cash or surety bond.
