Sioux Center, Iowa — A central Iowa man has been arrested on a felony eluding charge after a pursuit in Sioux County on Sunday.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sioux Center Police Department, 26-year-old Jose Giron Giron of Clive, Iowa is accused of eluding law enforcement attempting to make a traffic stop. He was arrested on Sunday.
In his statement, the officer says another officer was attempting to stop Giron Giron, who did not have his headlights or tail lights on. During the pursuit, his vehicle struck the front of the officer’s marked patrol unit as the officer attempted to position his vehicle in front of Giron Giron. The officer eventually was able to execute a PIT maneuver to bring the car to a stop.
Giron Giron was charged with eluding at over 25 miles per hour over the limit, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. In addition, he faces misdemeanor charges of operating while intoxicated, three counts of failure to obey stop sign, no valid driver’s license, no insurance (accident-related), driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and failure to use headlights.
He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on December 31st.
Giron Giron was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, and was released the same day after posting a $5000 personal recognizance bond.
