Orange City, Iowa — A Chicago man has been arrested on a warrant for vehicular homicide charges in Sioux County.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Iowa State Patrol, 27-year-old Renzo Sira Parra is accused of driving under the influence and causing a crash that took two lives. He was arrested on Tuesday.
In his statement, the trooper says that on December 11th, 2024, at approximately 5:23 AM, Renzo Sira Parra was operating a 2008 Honda Fit northbound on Garfield Avenue, about three miles west of the Hardee’s corner in Sioux Center. The trooper says Sira Parra was operating the vehicle without a valid license.
He says Sira Parra failed to perceive and properly react to the three rumble strips, a “stop ahead” sign, and the stop sign at the intersection. He says Sira Parra failed to yield to an eastbound vehicle, which collided with the driver’s side of Sira Parra’s vehicle, causing both backseat occupants to be ejected.
According to the trooper, Sira Parra had admitted to smoking marijuana prior to driving. Blood and urine specimens were obtained. Active THC was present in his blood, and THC metabolites were present in the blood and urine.
The trooper alleges that Sira Parra unintentionally caused the death of Alfredo Jose Pirelas Lira and Maikol Antonio Repillosa Segobia as a result of the crash.
Sira Parra was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, a class B felony. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison on each count. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of operating under the influence, first offense.
He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Tuesday, March 25th.
At last report, he remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
