City Council: Library Board Terms Issue Postponed

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met on Wednesday. They were to discuss changing the terms on the Library board from six years to three years, but, due to some late developments, the issue was removed from the agenda at the beginning of the meeting.

When they approved the consent agenda, they approved the meeting minutes from the previous meting, the list of claims, the approval of a liquor license renewal for Brady’s Pub, the approval of an ownership change for an alcohol license, the approval of a fire applicant, the acceptance of a resignation notice for the cemetery board, the mayor’s recommendation for council appointment for the airport commission, the mayor’s recommendations for the 2026 City Council committee assignments, a resolution approving fire service fees, a resolution approving the annual Village Northwest Unlimited fireworks display for July 2026, and the setting of a date and time for a public hearing on budget amendment for fiscal year 2025-26.

The council voted to approve the Pape real estate transaction. The SCDC will develop the property, known as Spruce Mead Acres, with the help of grant funding.

The council heard reports from Children’s World and from the SCDC. Mark Brown with the SCDC gave a summary of the Downtown Presentation of December 2nd. These can be viewed by watching the video of the meeting.

Oaths of office were administered to Mayor Greg Geels and Council Member Tom Eggers, who were re-elected in November, and to new Council Member Jeff Wagner, who was elected in November. They also presented a plaque to retiring Council Member Ken Snyders.
