Northwest Iowa — Two county foundations in our area have announced they are accepting grant applications.
The Sioux County Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations, schools, and local government entities serving Sioux County.
Eligible applicants may request up to $15,000, with applications due March 15. Applications must be submitted online through the Siouxland Community Foundation website.
Since awarding its first grants in 2006, the Sioux County Community Foundation has distributed more than $1.9 million to support local projects in areas including arts and culture, community betterment, education, environment, health, and human services.
The grant funding is made possible through Iowa’s County Endowment Fund Program, which was created by the Iowa Legislature in 2004. The program is funded by a portion of the state’s commercial gaming tax revenue and is designed to ensure counties without state-issued gaming licenses still benefit from gaming-related funds.
Meanwhile, the Community Foundation of Lyon County, which is also an affiliate of the Siouxland Community Foundation, is accepting grant applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and units of local government. Grant criteria and the online application can be found at siouxlandcommunityfoundation.org under the affiliates tab. Just like Sioux County, the Lyon County deadline is also March 15th.
Officials tell us the Lyon County foundation will also award grants in the areas of arts, culture, civic, education, environment, and health and human services.
Unlike the Sioux County Community Foundation, however, the Community Foundation of Lyon County does not get state funds, since there is a gaming facility in Lyon County. The Lyon County foundation depends on donations and endowments from private individuals.
For more information on either foundation, you can contact the Siouxland Community Foundation at 712-293-3303.
