Cornstalks Burned In Fire North Of Primghar

Primghar, Iowa — About five acres of cornstalks was burned in a fire on Thursday, October 17, 2024, near Primghar.

According to Primghar Fire Chief Cory Crouch, at about 1:15 p.m., the Primghar Fire Department was called to the report of a cornstalk field on fire near 360th Street and Silver Avenue, about two miles north of Primghar on Highway 59.

The chief says the fire department saw cornstalks burning with a south wind pushing the fire north fast as they approached the scene. He says multiple farmers showed up with disks to help fight the fire.

Crouch says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Sanborn and Hartley Fire Departments.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, as there was no farm equipment working the field.

Chief Crouch reports that about five acres burned, including a little of the neighbor’s standing corn, but they were able to put that out quickly.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for an hour to an hour and a half.
