Cornstalks In A Field Burn In Archer Area Fire

Archer, Iowa — About five acres of cornstalks were burned in a fire on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, near Archer.

According to Archer Fire Chief Don De Boer, at about 2:20 p.m., the Archer Fire Department was called to the report of a field fire near 5071 370th Street, about two and a half miles west of Archer.

The chief says the fire department saw the burning cornstalks as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire and a farmer disked firebreaks.

De Boer says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be a bad alternator on a combine.

Chief De Boer says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about a half hour.
