Crop Report: Northwest Iowa Crops Doing Well

Iowa — Iowa farmers were able to get into the fields most of last week, with 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork statewide, and 6.3 days were suitable in northwest Iowa.

77 percent of Iowa corn is rated good to excellent. 69 percent of corn statewide has reached the dough stage or beyond, which is four days behind last year, but three days ahead of the five-year average. 59 percent of corn in northwest Iowa has reached the dough stage.

Soybeans are also at 77 percent good to excellent. Soybeans setting pods statewide reached 74 percent, which is five days behind last year and two days behind the average. 70 percent of northwest Iowa soybeans are setting pods.

68 percent of topsoil in northwest Iowa has adequate moisture, with 27 percent short or very short, and five percent surplus. 77 percent of northwest Iowa subsoil has adequate moisture, with 18 percent short or very short, and five percent surplus.
