Clear Lake, Iowa (RI) — A greater northwest Iowa man’s body was recovered from Clear Lake late Thursday afternoon.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the body of 54-year-old Dennis Blume of Fonda was located at around 5:30 p.m. after an extensive search. Authorities received a 911 call at about 1:30 Thursday afternoon, reporting an unoccupied fishing boat circling on Clear Lake. DNR Water Patrol officers responded and made contact with the witnesses who reported the incident. Those witnesses were able to stop the boat, which contained Blume’s belongings. Emergency personnel from the Iowa DNR as well as the Clear Lake and Ventura fire departments, conducted a coordinated search using sonar equipment, with the Clear Lake Fire Department utilizing underwater drone technology to recover Blume’s body. The incident remains under investigation.
