Orange City, Iowa — Workers at an Orange City factory were evacuated as a precaution after a fire call on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025.
According to Orange City Fire Chief Dan Roghair, at about 10:10 a.m., the Orange City Fire Department was called to the report of a fire at Vogel Paint in southern Orange City on K64.
The chief says a small unit containing hot wax was on fire. He says the area was probably about the size of a five-gallon can.
Roghair says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by Alton firefighters as per their auto-aid agreement. Alton firefighters stood by the hydrants on the north side, just in case.
He says the cause of the fire appeared to be mechanical in nature. Roghair says the evacuation was only as a precaution and production was not affected.
Chief Roghair reports that the damage limited to that piece of equipment, and was probably under $500.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes, and were assisted by law enforcement and the Orange City Ambulance Squad.
