Doctor: Get Screened For Colon Cancer

Sheldon, Iowa — March has been Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Dr. Myles Tieszen of Sanford Sheldon tells us colon cancer is somewhat unique.

Since colon cancer can be prevented through colonoscopy, it’s very important to get your colonoscopies on schedule. He says there’s also another way to screen for colon cancer.

The normal advice is to start getting colonoscopies at 45. But, Dr. Tieszen says if you have persistant blood in your stools or any other unusual symptoms, that may be a good indication that you should have a colonoscopy. Check with your medical provider.
