Doon Man Faces Felony Assault Charge

Doon, Iowa — A Doon man has been arrested on a felony assault charge after an incident in Doon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 28-year-old Joshua Van Schepen of Doon is accused of assaulting his wife. He was arrested on Sunday.

In his statement on the criminal complaint, the deputy says that during an escalated argument, Van Schepen is accused of pushing and choking the victim. He is also accused of throwing a child’s toy and striking the victim.

Van Schepen was charged with domestic abuse assault impeding air or blood flow, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

Van Schepen faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on September 3rd.

Van Schepen was booked into the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids, and was released the same day after posting a $5000 cash or surety bond.
