Sioux Center, Iowa — Dr. Dave Mulder, professor and chair of the Education Department at Dordt University, has released a new book exploring the role of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
The book, Teach Like a Human: Playful Practice and Serious Faith in the Age of AI, is now available for purchase. Mulder says the work blends theology, practical wisdom, and a deep love of teaching to help educators navigate technology while staying grounded in the “good, God-delighting, always-important work of teaching.”
In the book, Mulder provides practical examples of how AI can be utilized—and when it should be set aside—to foster a thoughtful approach to educational technology. He describes it as a “theology of educational technology,” encouraging teachers to use AI in restoration-oriented ways.
Mulder says his research and teaching experience at Dordt, as well as his regular speaking engagements across North America, have shaped his perspective on this emerging issue. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses on technology in education and says that his students’ questions have pushed him to continue learning.
“My hope is that this book sparks productive conversations about AI among teachers, school leaders, and school communities,” Mulder said. “We can move forward with confidence, knowing Christ is sovereign over all things.”
