Fire Department Responds To Fire Call At Inwood Hog Confinement

Inwood, Iowa — A hog confinement was damaged on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, near Inwood.

According to Inwood Fire Chief Troy Van Beek, at about 10:50 a.m., the Inwood Fire Department was called to the report of a structure fire in an occupied hog unit at 2313 Able Boulevard, a mile north and nearly three west of Inwood.

The chief says the fire department saw no flame or smoke as they approached the scene. He says when they entered the building they found burned spots on the steel on the ceiling. He says they used thermal imaging cameras to find the hot spots, then pulled roof steel off and scooped out the burned insulation, which had been smoldering.

Van Beek says no injuries were reported to people, pets, or livestock.

The fire department was assisted by the Canton and Larchwood fire departments.

He says the cause of the smoldering insulation appeared to be electrical in nature, and likely was caused by electronic equipment mounted to the ceiling.

Chief Van Beek reports that there was minor damage.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene until 12:20 p.m..
