Fire Destroys Auto Repair Business In Doon

Doon, Iowa — An auto repair business was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in Doon.

According to Doon Fire Assistant Chief Joel Sneller, at about 9:45 a.m., the Doon Fire Department was called to the report of a building on fire at 111 Hubbard Avenue in Doon, the home of Klint’s Repair.

The chief says the fire department saw the building fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says a few minutes after they arrived, the roof caved in, and it became a defense and control operation.

Assistant Chief Sneller says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Alvord Fire Department.

He says the owner was working on a pickup, using a torch when the fire broke out. After attempts to put it out were unsuccessful, he called 911.

Assistant Chief Sneller reports that the building was totaled in the blaze, but the firefighters were able to save the nearby buildings.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for a little over an hour.

He tells us that he was told that they are looking for another building so the owner can continue to operate his business.
