Fire Near Archer Destroys Shed, Contents

Archer, Iowa — A shed and its contents were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, near Archer.

According to Archer Fire Chief Brian Vollink, at about 3:00 a.m., the Archer Fire Department was called to the report of a shed on fire with a propane tank nearby at 4045 Oak Hill Avenue, three miles south and two west of Archer, or six miles east of Hospers.

When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw the 20×35-foot shed with flames coming out of the end of the building. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Vollink says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Hospers Fire Department.

He says the cause of the fire may have been related to a heating pad for a dog in the corner of the building, where it was the hottest. The chief says the heating pad was the only thing plugged in in the building. The dog was able to escape the fire and was not injured.

Chief Vollink reports that the building and its contents, including lumber and power tools, were lost in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about three hours.
