Northwest Iowa — Firefighters in the area were busy on Wednesday and Thursday with grass and wildfires, due to the dry and windy conditions.
In the four northwest Iowa counties, no fewer than seven of those type of fires were reported on Wednesday.
In addition to the shed fire they responded to Wednesday, Primghar firefighters had a grass fire on 390th Street.
Larchwood firefighters responded to a burning pile out of control with fire extending into a field on Coolidge Avenue. Sanborn firefighters responded to a pasture fire on Polk Avenue. Sioux Center firefighters had a grass fire headed toward a grove on Ibex Avenue. Hospers and Granville firefighters were sent to a ditch fire on 500th Street. Granville firefighters were also sent to a Grass Fire on McKinley Avenue, and Inwood firefighters went to a trash fire out of control on Cherry Avenue.
A Red Flag warning was posted for a time on Wednesday for portions of the region.
Lyon County fire chiefs and Sheriff Brian Hilt took to social media on Thursday morning asking people to postpone burning until we’ve had some moisture.
