Sheldon, Iowa — In past years, in addition to Independence Day, you could also use consumer fireworks in Sheldon for a couple of weeks at the end of the year.
You can still use fireworks in Sheldon for New Year’s, but the time that they are legal has been reduced. Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker explains.
Experts say there is a lot of risk around fireworks use, from fire risk to risk of injury, plus people prone to PTSD and pets don’t usually tolerate them very well. But if you can keep your fireworks use to after noon on Sunday until a half hour into the new year, you shouldn’t run afoul of the Sheldon Police.
