United States — Flags across the nation are at half-staff.
Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the age of 84. According to a statement from his family, the cause of death was complications from pneumonia and long-standing cardiac and vascular disease.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says Cheney will be remembered as a remarkable statesman—in Congress and the Executive Branch, in times of peace and war, at home and abroad. Above all, he will be remembered as a patriot who dedicated his life to the service of his country. Reynolds says she and her husband offer their sincere condolences and prayers to his family.
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says Cheney served as White House Chief of Staff under President Ford. He was a Congressman for the people of Wyoming. He was the 17th Secretary of Defense and the 46th Vice President of the United States. He says Cheney was a part of American history for more than five decades, and he and his wife will pray for Cheney’s family as they mourn the loss of a beloved family member.
According to the American Legion, as a mark of respect for the memory of former Vice President Cheney, the United States flags are to be flown at half-staff through sunset on the day of his interment.
