Inwood, Iowa — About 40 acres of corn stubble was burned in a fire on Monday, January 27, 2025, near Inwood.
According to Inwood Fire Chief Troy Van Beek, just before noon, the Inwood Fire Department was called to the report of a cornstalk fire near 2484 Dogwood Avenue, three and a half miles east and most of a mile south of Inwood.
The chief says the fire department saw lots of smoke and flames across the field as they approached the scene. He says they used water and box blades to fight the fire.
Van Beek says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Alvord and Larchwood fire departments.
He says the cause of the fire appeared to be a burn pile that went out of control.
Chief Van Beek reports that the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half. He wants to remind people that it’s really dry out, so people need to be careful when burning anything.
