Four People Taken To Hospitals After Friday Night Accident Near Casino

Larchwood, Iowa– Four people were taken to Sioux Falls hospitals after an accident near the Grand Falls Casino northwest of Larchwood on Friday, October 31, 2025.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 9:15 p.m., 36-year-old Kristina Espinoza of Doon was driving a 2010 Lincoln eastbound on Beech Avenue, three and a half miles west of Larchwood, or about two miles south of the Grand Falls Casino. They tell us that 32-year-old Quyntin Maassen of Larchwood was southbound on Highway 9 in a 2005 GMC Yukon.

The report says that Espinoza failed to slow for the stop sign and went straight across the intersection in front of Maassen. The Maassen vehicle struck the driver’s side of the Espinoza vehicle in a broadside collision.

The deputy’s report goes on to say that Espinoza sustained injuries to her face and other injuries. It says, “She is believed to be under the influence of both alcohol and drugs.”

Maassen’s vehicle had a female passenger who was 36 weeks pregnant at the time of the collision.

The Larchwood EMS took Espinoza and one of her passengers, 12-year-old Kado Jacinto-Espinoza to Sanford University Medical Center Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Lyon County Ambulance EMTs took her other passenger, 10-year-old Ezyah Espinoza-Jacinto to Sanford, and Maassen’s passenger, 30-year-old Rachel Maassen, to Avera McKennan Hospital, also in Sioux Falls

Espinoza’s Lincoln sustained $5000 in damages, and Maassen’s GMC Yukon sustained $6000 in damages. Both were considered totaled.

At the time of the report, no charges had been filed.
