Four People Taken To Hospitals, Three By Air After Rock Rapids Area Accident

Rock Rapids, Iowa– Four people were taken to hospitals, three of them via helicopter, after an accident near Rock Rapids on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 1:50 p.m., a 15-year-old male juvenile from Hull was driving a 2015 Chevy southbound on Highway 75, five miles south of Rock Rapids at what’s known as Lakewood Corner. They tell us that 62-year-old Kathleen Goedken of Rock Rapids was northbound on 75 in a 2025 Honda. A third vehicle, a 2018 Chevy Silverado, was driven by 66-year-old Russell Holzman of Le Mars.

The report says that the Chevy driven by the 15-year-old crossed the centerline and struck the side of the trailer being pulled by Holzman. The car driven by the 15-year-old then hit the Goedken Honda head-on.

Four people were taken to hospitals as a result of the crash.

A 13-year-old male from Hull was flown to Sanford Sioux Falls by Sanford Air Med. 62-year-old Kathleen Goedken of Rock Rapids was flown to Avera McKennen in Sioux Falls by Avera Careflight. 90-year-old Lucy Hoppe of Rock Valley was flown to Avera McKennen by Sanford Air Med. 36-year-old Norma Niz Niz of Hull was taken to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids by Lyon County Ambulance.
