Free Thanksgiving Meals Being Served; Some Require Signing Up Soon

Northwest Iowa — Thanksgiving is coming up, and many of us are getting ready to roast the bird, make the sides, and sit down to a feast with family and friends. However, sometimes people have nowhere to go for Thanksgiving or have no one to share it with. And some people can’t afford a Thanksgiving feast. There are meals planned in the area for just such a situation. Organizers of the meals say that everyone is welcome.

Pre-registration is required for most of these meals, so we’re telling you about them now so that you have a chance to sign up before the deadline.

The First Reformed Church in Sheldon is hosting a free Thanksgiving meal. It’s at noon on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27th. Call to reserve your spot by Monday, November 24th at 712-324-2130. Free will donations will be accepted.

There is a free CommUNITY Thanksgiving Meal in Orange City at the First Reformed Church. Note the change in location from previous years, as it has been at Living Water Church, but this year it’s at First Reformed. They are looking for volunteers and donations of both food and money. You can sign up or give at tinyurl.com/OCThanksgivingMeal. BUT — as far as coming to eat, fellowship, and give thanks, no reservations are needed — they say just come, bring your appetite, and enjoy a warm meal and even warmer company.

The Rock Rapids First Reformed Church and Chamber of Commerce invite you to a Community Thanksgiving Meal on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th, at noon at the First Reformed Church of Rock Rapids. Meals are available in-person, for delivery, or to-go, and all are free of charge. For this meal, they do request that you RSVP by Sunday, November 23rd. You can sign up online at bit.ly/commthanksgiving or by calling the Chamber at 712-472-3456 or the Church at 712-472-3729.

Other meals are being served in other towns as well. Check with your local officials, church, or chamber of commerce about a free Thanksgiving meal near you.
