George Firefighters Extinguish Combine Fire

George, Iowa — A combine was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, near George.

According to George Fire Assistant Chief Josh Eben, at about 4:05 p.m., the George Fire Department was called to the report of a combine fire near 4179 190th Street, two miles north and almost two east of George.

When they got there, the assistant chief says the fire department saw the combine header on fire. He says they put out the flames with water

Assistant Chief Eben says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be mechanical in nature, and the origin was in the combine’s feeder house, just inside the combine.

Assistant Chief Eben reports that there was moderate damage, but he says a few hoses and some new wiring would probably fix it up.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for between a half an hour and 45 minutes.

With the dry conditions we’ve been having, northwest Iowa fire officials are urging people to be careful — especially farmers who are harvesting. They say you should keep the machine clean and as free of dust as possible. Obviously, harvesting creates and kicks up a lot of dust, but cleaning the machine regularly is important. They also remind you to slow down and be careful.
