George, Iowa — A cooking accident caused a fire call in George on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025.
According to George Fire Assistant Chief Josh Eben, the George Fire Department was called to the report of heavy smoke and possibly a fire at the George Locker.
He tells us that a piece of hanging meat in the facility’s smoker fell from its hook and tipped the grease pan over into the fire. He says firefighters put out the fire and ventilated the building. He says no injuries were reported.
The only loss in the fire was the bacon that was being smoked. Firefighters were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
