George, Iowa — The George and Little Rock fire departments were kept busy the past couple of days.
According to George Fire Chief Bill Sprock, at about 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, the George Fire Department was called to the report of a shed and grove on fire at 3912 190th Street, about two miles north of George’s west side.
Sprock says the fire had been a controlled burn, and rekindled in the wind. He says it burned grass, two old sheds with minimal to no value, and part of a grove.
Sprock says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Little Rock Fire Department.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene until about 3:30 p.m. But while they were still there, they got a call to another fire at 1883 Kingbird Avenue. The Little Rock firefighters accompanied them on that call too. He says burning grass got into a grove.
After they put out that fire, a little later, the George firefighters were called to help the Rock Rapids fire department.
Then on Thursday morning at about 7:30, they were called to yet another fire that had rekindled from the night before. They fought that fire for about two hours. Chief Sprock advises people to be very careful with fire and also remember that strong winds can easily rekindle old fires that you thought were out for perhaps days or even weeks.
Sprock says the George Emergency Medical Service (GEMS) also assisted with both fire calls on Wednesday.
