Lester, Iowa– A Georgia man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Lester on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 9:45 a.m., 33-year-old Steven Berrien of Powder Springs, Georgia was driving a 2016 Peterbilt eastbound on 180th Street, three miles south of Lester. They tell us that he slowed his semi for the railroad tracks and as a result, lost traction, and slid off the icy road to the right and struck the railroad crossing pole. The semi and the railroad crossing pole ended up in the south ditch.
The Lyon County Ambulance took Berrien to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids.
Berrien’s Peterbilt sustained $25,000 in damages.
He was charged with failure to maintain control.
